Nikon Inc. has announced the availability of the new AF-S NIKKOR 85mm f/1.8G prime lens.
Measuring 80mm x 73mm and weighing 350 grams, this FX-format lens is perfect for shooting stills or HD videos under ideal lighting, in low light, head and shoulder portraiture, weddings or concerts. It has a fixed focal-length of 85mm with a maximum aperture of f/1.8, Nikon’s Internal Focus (IF) system and a Silent Wave Motor (SWM) for extremely quiet autofocusing. If you use the Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 85mm f/1.8G lens on a DX-format D-SLR such as the Nikon D5100 and D3100, the lens offers an effective field of view of 127mm. The Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 85mm f/1.8G will be available in March 2012 for $499.95 a pop. The lens features an ultra fast f/1.4 wide-open aperture along with the rounded 9-blade diaphragm, making it perfect for portraits. There is an M/A focus mode switch, allowing you to quickly change between manual and autofocus. When used with DX-format DSLR cameras, the lens offers a 127.5mm equivalent focal length. Nikon has released the Speedlight SB-N5, which is touted as the world’s smallest flash unit. Designed only for the new Nikon 1 camera system, the device has a flash head that can be rotated 90° up and 180° left or right. Measuring 50mm x 70.5mm x 40.5mm and weighing 70 grams, this new flash unit is easily mounted on the Nikon 1 camera’s multi accessory port. The Nissin Di622 Mark 11 Speedlight flash unit for Sony DSLR camera is now available in the UK market via Kenro. It is an upgraded version of the popular Di622 that has served photographers so well since its launch in 2007. The Mark 11 model features a number of improvements including wireless TTL, and MY TTL. The unit also comes with a useful external X Sync Socket. It is powered by four AA batteries and offers a recycling time of just 5 seconds with new batteries. Seconic has rolled out the limited edition L-308S Flashmate meter in order to celebrate its sixtieth anniversary this year. Available in red, green and blue, the pocket-sized light meter is designed to read ambient or flash exposures in either reflected or incident modes, and displays accurate exposure readings in full, half, or third-stop increments. The limited edition Sekonic L-308S Flashmate meter retails for US$233.
Additionally, the company also announced a 60th Anniversary Contest, inviting photographers to write a story about when they “fell in love with light”. To enter, contestants need to write a story between 250 and 500 words telling Sekonic about the moment they fell in love with light. Submissions will be accepted until July 31, 2011.
