For overall winner dpreview recommended Lumix LZ8.

Even the style is quite conservative but Panasonic Lumix LZ8 has extensive feature set and comprehensive manual controls, and as the winner at dpreview budget camera group test, it is the best value for money, and one of the best performers too.

The Panasonic LZ8 isn’t the smallest or prettiest camera here, but it is undoubtedly the best camera here and is actually very well put together and is a lot less bulky than it appears. You can buy it online for around $99 – $120, which in our book makes it an absolute bargain.

I got one for Festivus and I love it. It’s very flexible – the fully automatic mode is a snap to use, the professional mode has lots of features and there are a lot of scenario modes that makes taking tricky shots easy. Its video capture makes great videos – I especially like the high quality, 30fps widescreen capture, they make GREAT videos at a surprising quality.
