Despite the core elements of the D700 essentially being the same as D3’s.
Beginning with the similarities, the same full-frame, FX format CMOS sensor outputs an effective of 12.1MP.
Nikon claims that this ensures smooth tonal gradations in both Raw and JPEG files, with the single-engine processing responsible for rapid operational speed and a high noise ratio up to ISO 6400.
