Leica today released the firmware update version 2.014 for the Leica M8 digital rangefinder camera. This firmware adds support for the new Leica Super-Elmar-M 21mm f/3.4 lens and optimizes internal processes for better overall stability. You can download the Leica M8 firmware upgrade right here. Here is good news for all Leica M9 owners. The company has issued a new firmware update for this full-frame digital rangefinder camera. The firmware update version 1.162 includes an “improvement of the sensor homogeneity for wide-angle lenses” and provides an additional color calibration for all wide-angle lenses. The Leica M9-P Hammertone Limited Edition was created to celebrate the 5th anniversary of the Leica Ginza store in Tokyo. This limited edition camera features a classic Leica writing on top plate, a vulcanite cover, a sapphire LCD glass and no red Leica logo or M9 marking on the front. Only 100 cameras will be available for purchase. The kit includes an Elmarit M F2.8/28mm ASPH lens. The Leica M9-PHammertone Limited Edition will be available in July, 2011. [DC Watch]

Leica Camera AG will release a new 14.1-megapixel compact digital camera, the Leica V-Lux 30. The camera features the Leica DC Vario-Elmar 4.3 – 68.8 mm f/3.3-5.9 ASPH. 16x zoom lens, which has an extended range of focal lengths equivalent to 24mm to 384mm in 35mm format. Thanks to this high performance lens, the Leica V-Lux 30 delivers outstanding image quality and covers a wide range of photographic opportunities, ranging from wide-angle and macro shots to telephoto shots of distant subjects. The new superzoom compact camera also offers 1080i Full HD movie recording in the AVCHD format, 10fps continuous shooting at full 14.1MP resolution and can generate 3D images. Additional specs include a 3-inch touch-sensitive display with a resolution of 460,000 pixels and an integrated GPS function. The Leica V-Lux 30 will be available from Leica dealers beginning June 2011. The camera is supplied with an extensive software package comprising Adobe Photoshop Elements 9 for still image processing and Adobe Premiere Elements 9, especially designed for video processing. Here is good news for all Leica X1 owners, because the company has issued a new firmware update for this camera. The firmware update version 2.0 offers the following improvements:
- improved image quality
- shorter time lag between exposures
- improved AF response, especially in low-light conditions and in the case of low contrast subjects
- improved MF setting accuracy due to monitor image now always based on wide open aperture

German camera manufacturer Leica has jopined together with German automaker BMW to release the Leica X1 BMW Limited Edition camera. The camera comes equipped with an Emarit 24mm f2.8 ASPH lens, a CMOS image sensor, a retro metal casing and a little BMW logo stamped on the casing. Only 600 pieces of the Leica BMW X1 model were produced. The Leica X1 BMW Limited Edition camera retails for a hefty US$3500 each. Read more…
