Nikon has released the Speedlight SB-N5, which is touted as the world’s smallest flash unit. Designed only for the new Nikon 1 camera system, the device has a flash head that can be rotated 90° up and 180° left or right. Measuring 50mm x 70.5mm x 40.5mm and weighing 70 grams, this new flash unit is easily mounted on the Nikon 1 camera’s multi accessory port. The Nissin Di622 Mark 11 Speedlight flash unit for Sony DSLR camera is now available in the UK market via Kenro. It is an upgraded version of the popular Di622 that has served photographers so well since its launch in 2007. The Mark 11 model features a number of improvements including wireless TTL, and MY TTL. The unit also comes with a useful external X Sync Socket. It is powered by four AA batteries and offers a recycling time of just 5 seconds with new batteries. The Slave facility on the Di622 Mark 11 synchronizes to pre-flash systems, traditional single flash, and to wireless remote flash systems. The Olympus FL-300R is a new flash unit for Four Thirds and Micro Four Thirds cameras. Measuring 56.4mm x 89.2mm x 26.9mm and weighing at just 97 grams, this compact flashgun features an approximately 75° angle of coverage, which is equivalent to the diagonal angle of view of a 14mm lens on FT/MFT or a 28mm lens on a 35mm camera. There is also an integrated wide panel that allows the flash unit to be used with ultra-wide lenses including the M.Zuiko Digital 9-18mm f/4-5.6 lens. The Olympus FL-300R requires a couple of AAA batteries to operate. Additionally, you can also use this flash unit as a master or slave in wireless mode. The Sony HVL-F43AM is a compact, dust- and moisture resistant external flash unit for Sony Alpha DSLR cameras. Ideal for everyday shooting and more serious applications, this external flash unit features Quick Shift Bounce adjustment and Wireless Ratio Control. Sony’s innovative Quick Shift Bounce system allows flash head position to be adjusted instantly when switching between horizontal and vertical compositions, maintaining consistent shadow positions regardless of camera orientation. Meanwhile, the Wireless Ratio Control makes it easy to select light emission ratios for up to three separate flash units. The zooming head of the HVL-F43AM covers the angle-of-view range of a 24-105mm lens on a full-frame digital SLR camera, and the flash boasts a guide number of 43 (in meters at ISO 100/21°) at the 105mm setting. Do you still remember the Nissin Di466 Flash? Kenro, the UK distributor for Nissin flash equipment, has started selling the new generation Nissin Di466 model that is designed for Four Thirds System DSLR cameras. The flash unit features a G/N of 33m @100ISO (53mm focal length), Bounce head through 90 degrees, TTL Exposure compensation from -1.5EV to +1.5EV by 0.5EV steps, Slave Remote Flash for either analogue or digital (pre-flash) flash systems with variable power in six steps, MY TTL, and a feature exclusive to Nissin enabling the user to customize their own TTL exposure level settings. What’s more, the flash also produces the same color as sunlight, which is useful for daylight fill-in photography. Nikon has proudly introduced the new Speedlight SB-700 external flash unit that incorporates functions inherited from the SB-900, which has been so well received by professional and advanced amateur digital-SLR camera users, in a smaller size comparable to the SB-600. The Nikon Speedlight SB-700 comes with a multi-step zooming head, covering the angle-of-view range of a 24-120mm lens in FX format. What’s more, the new Nikon SB-700 also incorporates FX/DX-format identification that optimizes zoom settings based on the user’s camera body. The flash supports Nikon’s wireless TTL operation and can also be set up as a commander unit or a remote slave. The Nikon SB-700 also offers a new Quick Wireless Mode with A:B (light ratios) for quick setting of multiple flash units. The recycle time of the SB-700 is approximately 2.5 seconds for full power with NiMH batteries, or approximately 3.0 seconds with AA Alkaline batteries.
