Carl Zeiss is back with its latest super-wide-angle lens, the Distagon T* 15mm F2.8. Designed for Canon EF and Nikon F mounts, the lens features an optical formula that consists of 15 lens elements in 12 groups. The Carl Zeiss Distagon T* 15mm f/2.8 is able to focus from only 25cm (10-inch close-focus point) and provides a diagonal angle of view of 110°.

What makes this super wide angle lens special is that it incorporates two aspheric lenses and special types of glass material with abnormal partial dispersion to provide an extraordinary correction of chromatic aberration. This lens has an integrated lens hood and a 95mm filter thread. The Carl Zeiss Distagon T* 15mm f/2.8 will be released in May 2012 at a recommended retail price of €2,148 or US$2,948 (excluding VAT). Carl Zeiss has recently launched special accessories for photographers to support their work with ZEISS lenses. The new from Carl Zeiss are optically and mechanically tailored to the high-quality ZEISS SLR lenses and protected against light reflections with the ZEISS T* multi-coating. In addition to the filter function, the front lens element of the lens provides protection against contamination and scratches. With the standard thread diameters of 58, 67, 72 and 82 mm, the filters also fit the lenses of other manufacturers.
The company has also released a special camera strap with air cell padding for SLR cameras. The camera straps ensure that your equipment does not lead to shoulder and neck strain, even when used for longer periods. Patented air cell padding and the elastic material unite comfort and maximum durability. Special quick-action locks enable users to quickly, easily and safely connect the straps to all standard SLR cameras. [dcviews]

Carl Zeiss today introduced a new Lightweight Zoom lens for filmmakers, which comes with interchangeable mounts that allow it to be used with a wide range of cameras, from traditional cine to HDSLR systems. Three different mounts are available such as PL, EF and F mount. Weighing in at around 2Kg, the Carl Zeiss Lightweight Zoom LWZ.2 features radically shaped spherical glass surfaces with a very strong curvature. Large-diameter aspherical lens elements keep the lens light while at the same time reducing spherical aberrations and keeping the image free of distortions. The new lens is currently being showcased at the NAB show in Las Vegas. [Photography Bay]
Sony Carl Zeiss 16-35mm f/2.8 Lens Review at Alpha Mount World and got “Highly Recommended” from them. This wide angle Zeiss is a natural pairing for Sony A900 owners, promising superior optics, optimal build quality, and yes, a substantial price tag. Read full review here

Sharpness overall is exemplary on this lens, less wide open to mid apertures (f2.8 to f5.6) in the corners at 16mm which to be fair, aren’t really a setting that this lens is intended to be used at anyways.
